Virtual Therapy in Oregon

Virtual therapy, also called online counseling or telehealth, lets you talk to a mental health professional through a video call. You get the same kind of help you’d receive in person, but from the comfort of your own space. You just need a smartphone or computer, an internet connection, and a quiet place where you feel safe and private.

Right now, online therapy has become a practical and safe way to get help, especially when meeting in person isn't possible or feels risky. During times of uncertainty, like the pandemic, it has been a way for people to keep up with their mental health and recovery while protecting their own health and the health of their therapist. But beyond health concerns, many people choose online counseling for other reasons too.

What to expect during online therapy sessions

In online therapy, most sessions happen through video calls. It’s very similar to meeting your therapist in person, but you’re doing it from home, or wherever you feel comfortable. You and your therapist can see and hear each other in real-time, which helps build that same connection you’d get in a face-to-face session.

In your first video session, you’ll usually start by talking about what brought you to therapy and any goals or concerns you have. Your therapist will ask questions to understand your situation better, and they might tell you a bit about their background and approach. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions, making sure you feel comfortable with them. The first session is really about getting to know each other and starting to build trust.
